From 5–7 August 2022, we came together as ticket helpers in the so-called 'Inclusion Team' under the experienced leadership of Darleen Humbert. Despite having little to none financial resources, we attempted to make the PRAERIE festival accessible.
The festival offered so-called participation tickets for people with a Class B disabled pass. A free entry of a personal assistanz was included. Through great personal commitment, we expanded the site's infrastructure to include wheelchair-accessible paths and charging stations for electric wheelchairs. We also built a barrier-free shower and toilet.
Nevertheless, the site presented us with a number of challenges. Despite our efforts, there were still a large number of barriers. During the festival we worked ins 24/7 shifts and were available for our guests at all times via walkie-talkies.
Our experience inspired us to continue our work together.
